Building the Legacy

From Steve Bolie, President of the Guthrie Grove Board of Directors

Exciting things are happening at Guthrie Grove. Of course, that’s always the case in terms of ministry of the Holy Spirit and lives made better by time spent at Guthrie.

Since Leonard “Bub” Jordison became the caretaker last fall, he has been hard at work fixing up and painting around the grounds. For example, the south windows of the dining hall have been replaced so now you can clearly see out on the newly landscaped hillside. The showers in the downstairs restrooms in the lodge have been remodeled with mold removed and lights and exhaust fans added. The interiors of the outdoor restrooms have been remodeled.

New Home

Two big projects are nearing completion:

  • Major renovation of the swimming pool – A new concrete deck has been constructed and a new liner has been installed. The entrances and the shelter have been changed and updated.
  • Replacement of the caretaker home – The old caretaker house had seen its best days and needed major repairs. It has been removed. A new modular home has been constructed across the road just east of the old house. It is a beautiful home that will serve well for years to come.

Now, you may ask: “Where did all of the money come from for these improvements?” The answer is: “From you.” Actually it came from reserve funds that have accumulated over many years and which are now nearly exhausted. That’s why we are sending this letter.

The cost of the current projects is about $170,000. This includes the pool renovations, the new caretakers’ house, and many other smaller projects around the camp. We are excited by the future projects like the renovation to the chapel, swinging bridge, and the creation and renovation of new and existing trails around camp. In order for Guthrie Grove to continue to improve and provide wonderful ministry for many years into the future, those who love and use the grounds must step up and support it financially. The Contributor Information below suggests several alternative methods of giving and the Pledge Card invites you to let the Board of Directors know of your intentions in this regard. Please consider what Guthrie Grove has meant to you and your family in the past and what it can mean for generations to come and respond accordingly.
